1. Scope of the service
Settlwise is a software product that helps people record shared expense information, split bills, track balances, and coordinate settlements with friends, roommates, couples, trips, and groups.
Settlwise is not a bank, wallet, payment processor, money transmitter, lender, accounting firm, or legal advisor. Unless we explicitly state otherwise, Settlwise does not move funds or hold money on behalf of users.
2. Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of digital consent where you live if higher, to create an account and use Settlwise.
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure, for the activity that happens under your account, and for providing accurate, current information.
3. Your responsibility for shared expense data
You are responsible for the bills, amounts, notes, participant details, and settlement information you enter or share through Settlwise.
Settlwise does not independently verify whether a bill is accurate, whether a participant agreed to a split, or whether a settlement occurred outside the product. Users remain responsible for resolving disputes with each other.
4. Acceptable use
You may not use Settlwise to:
- engage in fraud, deception, abuse, or illegal activity;
- upload or share misleading or unauthorized financial information;
- attempt to gain access to another person's account or group data;
- interfere with the service, security controls, or availability of the platform;
- harass, threaten, or coerce other users through bills, reminders, or messages;
- reverse engineer, scrape, or automate access in a way that harms the service.
5. Plans, trials, billing, and renewals
Settlwise currently offers Free, Pro, and Household plans. Paid plans may be billed monthly or annually, depending on the option you choose at checkout.
Unless stated otherwise during sign-up, first-time subscribers to a paid plan receive a 14-day free trial. After the trial, the subscription renews automatically until cancelled.
You authorize Settlwise and its payment processor to charge your selected payment method for subscription fees, taxes where applicable, and renewal charges unless you cancel before the renewal date.
6. Cancellation, downgrade, and account termination
You may cancel a paid plan at any time through the billing settings made available in the product. Cancellation stops future renewal charges, and access to paid features continues through the end of the current billing period unless we state otherwise.
If you downgrade to Free, features or limits outside the Free plan may no longer be available. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, create risk for other users, or create legal or security exposure for the service.
7. Refunds
Refunds are handled under the Settlwise Refund Policy. In general, first paid charges may be eligible for a short satisfaction window, billing errors are corrected, and renewals are otherwise non-refundable except where required by law or approved by us in writing.
8. Privacy and communications
Your use of Settlwise is also governed by the Privacy Policy. By using the service, you agree that Settlwise may send service-related communications, including security notices, billing notices, updates to the product, and reminders you configure for your groups.
If you have a privacy-related question, contact privacy@settlwise.com.
9. Intellectual property and feedback
Settlwise and its underlying software, content, design elements, marks, and documentation are owned by or licensed to the Settlwise operator and are protected by applicable law.
If you send product feedback, suggestions, or ideas, you grant Settlwise a non-exclusive right to use that feedback to improve the service without any obligation to compensate you.
10. Third-party services
Settlwise may rely on third-party providers for hosting, analytics, email, authentication, or billing. Those services may be governed by their own terms and privacy practices.
We are not responsible for outages, interruptions, or failures caused by third-party providers outside our reasonable control.
11. Disclaimers
Settlwise is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis to the maximum extent permitted by law. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access, error-free performance, or that the service will always prevent disputes, missed payments, or user mistakes.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Settlwise and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenues, goodwill, data, or business opportunities arising from or related to your use of the service.
Where liability cannot be excluded, Settlwise's total liability for claims relating to the service will be limited to the amount you paid to Settlwise for the subscription period giving rise to the claim, if any.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time as Settlwise evolves. If the changes are material, we will post the updated Terms on this page and may also notify users through email or in-product notice.
Continued use of the service after the updated Terms become effective means you accept the revised Terms.
